[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hansol Chemical has decided to introduce a "four-team, two-shift" work system. Major petrochemical companies such as LG Chem, Lotte Chemical and Hanwha Total Energy are also in the process of a de facto 3.5-day workweek, taking "two days and two days off" across the industry.

According to the chemical industry on the 6th, Hansol Chemical has decided to implement four teams of two shifts starting next month. Of the four working groups, two groups work 12 hours each during the day and night, while the other two groups rest.

The daily working hours will increase from the previous eight hours to 12 hours, but if you work two days, you can take two days off in a row, so more than half of the year can be used as a day off. Voices of preference for four or two shifts are spreading throughout the industry around the MX generation, as it has the advantage of getting plenty of self-development and rest instead of working long hours.

Major companies are already in pilot operations. The LG Chem is piloting four groups and two shifts for some departments at its Yeosu plant and Daesan plant, and is considering expanding it to all departments within this month or next month.

In the case of Lotte Chemical, the union conducted a survey on two shifts in four groups. In the first survey conducted last month, 282 out of 582 people participated and completed the second survey by the 5th. In the first survey, there were many votes in favor. After the survey is compiled, labor-management consultations are expected to begin in earnest for the pilot operation of four teams of two shifts within the year.
