[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Group and Hyundai Motor Group will join hands with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to convert diesel buses in Seoul into hydrogen buses early. By 2030, all diesel buses between Seoul, Gimpo and Incheon airports will be replaced by hydrogen buses, and hydrogen charging stations will be expanded. It is predicted that the construction of Seoul will speed up when leading hydrogen mobility.
Hyundai Motor Co., SK E&S, Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Environment Ministry and T-Map Mobility Co. signed an "agreement on hydrogen mobility leading city in Seoul" on the 7th. 700 hydrogen buses will be introduced to Seoul by 2025 and 1,300 hydrogen buses by 2030. Five new hydrogen bus charging stations will also be installed.
Diesel buses between Seoul and Gimpo Airport and Incheon International Airport will be changed to about 300 buses, or 70% of the total, by 2026 and all hydrogen buses by 2030.
Large diesel buses emit 30 times more greenhouse gases and 43 times more fine dust than regular passenger cars. There is an urgent need to switch to eco-friendly hydrogen buses. Hydrogen buses have a shorter charging time than electric buses and have a driving distance of more than 600km on a single charge, making them particularly suitable for airport buses that operate fixed long-distance routes.
Hyundai Motors will be in charge of producing and supplying low- and high-end hydrogen buses in a timely manner in accordance with the Seoul Metropolitan Government's goals. SK E&S stably produces and supplies liquefied hydrogen, the fuel of hydrogen buses, and establishes and operates charging infrastructure in a timely manner
