[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LG Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers announced on July 7 that they will jointly research and commercialize next-generation AI semiconductors and generative AI with Furiosa AI.
The two companies decided to prepare a roadmap for technological cooperation and expand the scope of collaboration to develop next-generation AI semiconductors that can run ultra-large AI models.
Furiosa AI is an AI semiconductor design company and plans to mass-produce Renegade, a second-generation AI chip, in the first half of next year. Through this partnership, the LG AI Research Institute will verify the generative AI commercial technology based on the super-large AI 'Exee' with the second-generation AI semiconductor Renegade being developed by Furiosa AI.
Called AI semiconductors, neural network processing units (NPUs) can process data faster and more efficiently than central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs). Inference performance is also high, which is expected to bring innovation in the AI field.
In order to establish a close cooperative system, Lim Woo-hyung, head of the Applied AI Research Group (Director), will be in charge of joint research with Furiosa AI and exploring business models.
