[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] A mid-sized pharmaceutical company, Handok, suffered a hacking accident in which personal information of doctors and pharmacists was leaked. We are currently figuring out the cause of the incident and dealing with the accident.
According to Handok on the 19th, it recognized an external hacking attack on the 2nd and is currently operating a call center and receiving damage from doctors and pharmacists.
It also guided the leakage of personal information through a pop-up notice on its website from the 9th to the 16th.
The leaked information was identified by the names of doctors and pharmacists, their medical institutions, majors, email addresses and mobile phone numbers. "As far as I know, sensitive personal information such as resident registration numbers has not been leaked," a Handok official said.
Some suspect that Handok may have taken a belated response by announcing it on the 9th, even though it was aware of the leak on the 2nd.
Handok protested that it followed the procedures stipulated in the Personal Information Protection Act.
"If the operator that caused the personal information leak is an information and communication service provider, it must report it to the Personal Information Protection Commission within 24 hours of the leak, but Handok, a pharmaceutical company, can report it within five business days," a Handok official said.
