POSCO and Samsung ENG have won Oman hydrogen business rights

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] A consortium led by South Korean companies such as POSCO Holdings and Samsung Engineering has won exclusive business rights for green hydrogen plants from the Omani government. It is the largest overseas green hydrogen project pushed by a domestic company.
A global consortium of six companies, including POSCO Holdings, Samsung Engineering, Korea Southern Power Co., Korea East-West Power Co., French energy company ENG and Thai oil and gas producer PTTEP, announced on the 21st (local time) that it has signed a contract with Oman company Hiderom for the development and business of green hydrogen.
It will be located on a site of about 340㎢, which is half of the total area of Seoul. The consortium aims to produce 220,000 tons of green hydrogen per year at the plant.
The plants will begin construction in 2027 and be completed in 2030. Under the contract, the consortium will have the right to pursue the project for seven years and operate the plant for 40 years.
