[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Conflicts are escalating over the extension of retirement age in this year's wage and collective agreement negotiations between Hyundai Motor's labor and management.

According to related industries on June 30, labor and management held the fifth round of negotiations the previous day. During the main negotiations, Hyundai Motor CEO Lee Dong-seok said it was "absolutely impossible" to the union's demand to extend the retirement age, and all union negotiators, including branch manager Ahn Hyun-ho, responded with an exit during the negotiations.

In this year's negotiations, Hyundai Motor's labor union is demanding that the retirement age, currently 60 years old, be extended to 64 years old, just before receiving the national pension.

Although the extension of the retirement age was included in the request every year, the union is proposing the extension of the retirement age as its top priority this year. In the meantime, the conflict between labor and management is expected to deepen as the company puts forward its position of "unacceptable retirement extension." The union is expected to step up its response in the future, including strikes. The union has already declared that it will join the strike of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions on the 12th.
