[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] As the World Health Organization (WHO) is reportedly planning to classify aspartame, an artificial sweetener alternative to sugar, as a carcinogen, the stock price of Lotte Chilsung, which uses aspartame in some products, also rose and fell during the day.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 3rd, Lotte Chilsung closed at 126,600 won, down 0.16% from the previous trading day. The stock price, which started lower, soared to 129,000 won during the day, but eventually rebounded.
On the 30th of last month, when foreign media reports on aspartame were released, it fell to 122,600 won during the day, breaking the 52-week new low price. In the end, it rose slightly to close flat, but the stock price rose and fell from 127,500 won to 122,600 won during the day.
Lotte Chilsung's three Pepsi Cola Zero Sugar products (Lime, Mango, and Black) are found to use aspartame. Aspartame is used in this product. Even though it is the same zero product, it is not included in Coca-Cola and is used in Pepsi.
