Samsung Electronics' semiconductor division (DS) performance bonus for the first half of the year was set at 25% of the basic salary. It is half the level compared to the second half of last year. This is attributed to poor performance due to worsening semiconductor business conditions. On the other hand, Samsung Display, which has improved profitability, receives 100% of its basic salary.
Samsung Electronics announced the payment rate of 'target achievement incentive' (TAI) for each business unit in the first half of this year through an in-house notice.
TAI is one of Samsung's bonus systems and pays up to 100% of the monthly basic salary once a year in the first and second half of the year in consideration of its performance. TAI will be paid in the first half of this year according to the payment rate by business unit on the 7th of this month.
By business unit, memory, foundry and system LSI divisions in the DS division all receive 25% of the basic salary, which is halved compared to the second half of last year.
From 2015 to the first half of last year, the DS division received a monthly base salary of 100%, the highest ever for TAI. However, due to poor performance in the second half of last year, memory, foundry, and system LSI all received 50%, and the size decreased to 25% this time. The DS division posted a deficit of more than 4 trillion won in the first quarter and is expected to suffer a deficit in the second quarter.
In the device experience (DX), the video display (VD) division in charge of the TV business and the mobile experience (MX) division in charge of smartphones will receive 50% of the basic salary, respectively. VD and MX division TAI was 50% of the basic salary in the second half of last year.
The Home Appliance Division and the Network Division were announced at 25%. These divisions received a bonus of 37.5%, the lowest among all divisions in the second half of last year.
Samsung Display receives 100% of its basic salary for promoting small and medium-sized displays.
