[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics said its sales and operating profit were tentatively estimated at 60 trillion won and 600 billion won in the second quarter of this year.
Sales fell 22% from last year, and operating profit fell more than 95%.
In particular, the decline in operating profit is large, the lowest level in 14 years since the 5,900 billion won recorded in the first quarter of 2009.
Although it did not disclose its performance by sector such as semiconductors and smartphones as it is a tentative performance, it is estimated that it has lost between 3 trillion won and 4 trillion won in the semiconductor sector alone.
It seems to be better than the semiconductor deficit of 4.6 trillion won in the first quarter, and it seems that the inventory loss has decreased due to the increase in DRAM shipments.
The industry believes that the semiconductor industry is currently bottoming out.
Three memory companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron, are responding through artificial production cuts, but the consumer market is still stagnant.
