[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Kia will produce a large electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) EV9 at its U.S. plant from the second and fourth quarters of next year.
This is the first time Kia has made an electric car in the United States. Industry sources say Kia will be able to benefit from tax deductions under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) through local production in the U.S.
According to related industries on the 13th, Kia will invest $200 million (about 255 billion won) in its plant in Georgia, which makes internal combustion locomotives, and produce electric vehicle EV9s from the second quarter of next year.
Kia is currently making North American strategic SUV Telluride, Sorento, Sportage and K5 at its Georgia plant, which will produce additional electric vehicle EV9s. The EV9 is Hyundai Motor Group's first electric SUV with three-row seats. The United States is one of the regions with the highest demand for large SUVs with large bodies. Kia expects EV9 to actively dig into this demand.
