[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Heavy Industries won orders for large-scale ships worth nearly KRW 4 trillion at a time. It is the largest single-contract ship order in Korea.
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 17th that it has won orders for 16,000 TEU-class methanol-powered container ships for 3.9593 trillion won from Asian shipowners. The contract is equivalent to 67% of Samsung Heavy Industries' total sales (5.9447 trillion won) last year.
These container ships will be delivered to the shipowner one by one as soon as they are built by December 31, 2027. The company that ordered the ship this time is known as Evergreen, a Taiwanese shipping company.
Samsung Heavy Industries achieved 66% of this year's order target ($ 9.5 billion) with this order. A total of 25 ships have been ordered this year. As a result, Samsung Heavy Industries' order balance also rose from $29.5 billion (about 37.3 trillion won) at the end of last year to $33.6 billion (about 42.5 trillion won).
