[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Eun Jin-hyuk, known as the real owner of private equity fund operator Alchemist, has been handed over to the prosecution on charges of embezzlement. Alchemist was suspected of making inappropriate transactions in the process of selling key foundry to SK Group.

The Financial Supervisory Service announced on the 18th that it has detected major cases of financial investment companies' pursuit of private interests this year. The Financial Supervisory Service selected this as a key inspection item in its business plan earlier this year, believing that the pursuit of illegal private interests in the private equity industry, including embezzlement, has increased significantly in recent years.

The Financial Supervisory Service's inspection found that Eun took billions of won through a company acquired from a fund run by Alchemist. The passage through which the funds were siphoned off was B, who Eun had put on paper as an executive of company A. Eun personally spent billions of won, including B's salary and advisory fees, while managing B's account. Eun is also accused of listing B as a shareholder of the alchemist instead of himself, the real owner, and then using hundreds of millions of won in alchemist funds as if they were spent by B. The Financial Supervisory Service recently accused Eun of embezzlement.

The Financial Supervisory Service is also said to be looking into suspicions that Alchemist operated the so-called "OEM Fund." The OM Fund is a fund operated by an asset management company under the direction of an investor, which could violate the Capital Markets Act. In a media interview in March, Eun said, "It was the OM Fund that acquired KeyFoundries in 2020." Suspicions that Eun is a real owner but falsely submitted related documents are also expected to be subject to sanctions by the Financial Supervisory Service if confirmed to be true.
