[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Chong Kun Dang has the largest number of drug item licenses among the nation's top five pharmaceutical companies in terms of sales in the first half of this year, a report showed.

From chemical synthetic drugs for chronic diseases such as diabetes and reflux esophagitis to macular degeneration treatment biosimilars (bioreplicative drugs), the disease and the area of the drug vary.

Industry analysts say that the results of steady research and development (R&D) investment are reflected in a number of drug permits.

According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) on the 23rd, a total of 12 medicines were approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in the first half of this year. This is the largest number among the top five pharmaceutical companies in terms of sales. During this period, Hanmi Pharmaceutical had 11 licensed drugs, followed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical (8), GC Green Cross (7), and Yuhan Corporation (6).

Of the 12 medicines licensed by Chong Kun Dang, nine were specialized medicines that required a doctor's prescription.
