Samsung Electro-Mechanics accelerates performance improvement with MLCC for electric devices

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on the 26th that its tentative sales in the second quarter of this year fell 9.6% on-year to KRW 2.22 trillion.

Operating profit was 204.9 billion won, down 43.1% over the same period. Cumulative sales in the first half of the year amounted to 4.242 trillion won, down 16.4% from the same period last year. Operating profit fell 55.2% to 345 billion won during the period.

Looking at sales by business sector and the rate of increase and decrease compared to the same period last year, components decreased by 12% to 1.65 trillion won. The optical communication sector was KRW 776.6 billion and the package sector was KRW 437.4 billion, down 0.3% and 18%, respectively, from the same period last year. An official of Samsung Electro-Mechanics explained, "Sales decreased compared to the same period last year due to the decrease in IT demand."

Samsung Electro-Mechanics outperformed the second-quarter securities consensus (performance forecast). According to securities analyst FnGuide, Samsung Electro-Mechanics' estimated sales in the second quarter were 2.746 trillion won and operating profit was 190.4 billion won.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics expects demand for major products to bottom out from the first half of the year and its performance to improve from the second half. In the second quarter, its performance improved from the previous quarter as demand for Chinese customers increased. 

 

Sales of MLCC (Layer Ceramic Condenser) and mobile semiconductor substrates (BGA) increased, and operating profit increased by KRW 198.7 billion (10%) and KRW 64.9 billion (46%) from the previous quarter due to increased supply of electronic products such as camera modules.
