[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] KT, which is suffering from an unprecedented CEO vacuum, is speeding up the process of appointing CEOs as it has narrowed down the number of candidates for the next CEO to three.

In the first week of August, only the last step, in-depth interviews, are left before selecting one final CEO candidate. Those who were interviewed in-depth (shortlist) were eliminated from all political figures who could lead to controversy over parachute and included only candidates with industry experience.

According to KT on the 28th, the director recommendation committee, which consists of the entire board of directors, confirmed Kim Young-sup, former president of LG CNS, Park Yoon-young, former head of KT's corporate division, and Cha Sang-kyun, a professor at Seoul National University, as candidates for in-depth interviews among about 30 internal and external candidates.

All three candidates have something in common that they worked in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry. Kim Young-sup served as chief financial officer (CFO) of LG Uplus in 2014 and served as CEO of LG CNS until 2022, gaining field experience in the ICT field. Park Yoon-young, former head of KT's corporate division, is an "orthodox KT man" who has served as head of KT's Future Business Development Group, head of corporate business consulting division and head of corporate business division (president). Professor Cha Sang-kyun is a scholar in the field of big data in Korea and served as KT's outside director for seven years from 2012 to 2019. He has founded an in-memory database-related startup in Silicon Valley and sold it to global companies.

KT plans to select one final candidate through an in-depth interview by the 4th of next month and appoint a new representative through an extraordinary shareholders' meeting at the end of August.
