[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LG Electronics, which has released its own artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor for home appliances, is speeding up its efforts to increase semiconductor capabilities by securing talent.
While major manufacturers around the world, including Apple and Tesla, have designed semiconductors themselves to enhance their product competitiveness, LG Electronics has also entered the competition.
According to the electronics industry on the 7th, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in charge of semiconductor development at LG Electronics is hiring employees to develop chipsets. It is heard that the door to recruitment is always open as a large number of master's and doctorate-level talent is needed. The selected employees are in charge of semiconductor-related tasks such as developing next-generation computing platform architectures and building chiplet development processes. Chiplets are a technology that combines several semiconductors and packs them into high-performance system-on-chip (SoC).
LG Electronics will also recruit new and experienced employees to take charge of semiconductor quality management at the quality management center by the 15th of this month. They are responsible for testing and verifying new technologies, new construction methods, new materials, and new functions related to core components of semiconductors.
LG Electronics will also find ways to strengthen semiconductor quality control and participate in the group's semiconductor quality council.
LG Electronics is also focusing on developing semiconductors for electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles. MCU, which is essential for controlling electrical appliances, is a prime example. It is expected that up to 2,000 MCUs will be installed in electric vehicles, which used to be 200 to 300 per exhaust pipe vehicle.
Apple and Tesla are some of the representative success stories. Apple puts self-designed semiconductors in every product. The mixed reality headset "Vision Pro," which was unveiled in June, is also equipped with semiconductor M2 and R1 designed by Apple.
Tesla also put semiconductors designed directly into autonomous vehicles.
This is also why Tesla was able to sell its cars on time amid the global supply and demand shortage of automotive semiconductors that began in 2019.
