An HDC Hyundai Development Company official said on the 8th, "In the process of discussing the scope of the reconstruction of Hwajeong I-Park, there was an adjustment through discussion with the residents' planning team." Previously, the first and third floors above the ground were excluded from the demolition list, but the plan was revised to a full-scale demolition in the face of growing resistance from residents.

The complex, which was under construction in Seo-gu, Gwangju, suffered a major safety accident in January last year when the outer wall of the apartment collapsed. Six workers were killed and one injured when the section from the 23rd floor to the 38th floor collapsed. In May last year, about four months after the accident, the company held a press conference and announced its plan to demolish and rebuild all buildings of the complex. HDC Group Chairman Chung Mong-kyu resigned as HDC Hyundai Development Company chairman at the time, saying, "I think completely removing and building a new complex is the fastest way to restore consumer trust."

However, HDC Hyundai Development Company recently excluded the first to third floors above the ground, where shopping malls and neighborhood living facilities will be built. In the run-up to the full-fledged demolition work, the target of the demolition was limited to 'eight buildings on the ground'. In the face of opposition from those scheduled to move in, the company adjusted the scope of the dismantlement back to full demolition.
