[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The prosecution first charged the 50-year-old head of the investment and finance department at BNK Kyongnam Bank, who is suspected of embezzling about 56.2 billion won, with embezzlement of 5 billion won and handed him over to trial. Although the investigation has yet to be completed, some of the charges are due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

The Criminal Revenue Recovery Department (Senior Prosecutor Lim Se-jin) at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said on the 16th that it has indicted Lee, head of the investment finance department at Kyongnam Bank, without physical detention on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes. Lee is suspected of having four savings banks to lend to developers for a project to create a golf course from July to August 2008 and using 5 billion won managed by Kyongnam Bank for stock investment and other personal purposes.

"Today's charges are some of the cases requested by the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation in September last year. We considered the statute of limitations," a prosecution official said. "We continue to investigate the remaining investigation requests and charges."

Lee was in charge of real estate project financing (PF) at the Seoul Investment Finance Department of Kyongnam Bank for 15 years from 2007 to April. Between August 2016 and October 2017, Lee embezzled 7.79 billion won by transferring principal and interest repaid from PF loans to accounts of his family and others.

In July 2021 and July last year, he forged the PF developer's request to withdraw funds and transferred PF loan funds handled by Kyongnam Bank twice to a corporate account represented by his family, stealing 32.6 billion won. In May last year, it did not repay 15.8 billion won in PF loan repayment funds handled by Kyongnam Bank, but was used to repay another PF loan that Lee was in charge of.
