There is noise related to the establishment of data centers not only in the NHN cloud but also throughout the region. Although local governments are actively attracting data centers, some point out that if they focus on attracting data centers without proper preparation, it will be difficult for both companies and local governments to achieve results.

According to the industry on the 17th, NHN Cloud is reviewing other data center candidate areas in Jeollanam-do other than Suncheon City.

NHN Cloud signed an investment agreement to build a public cloud center with Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do in March 2021. Since then, the two local governments have worked together to establish a data center, but problems such as the timing of construction have occurred on the site proposed by Suncheon City. NHN Cloud is planning to prepare for construction as soon as possible by searching for other sites in Suncheon or other sites in Jeollanam-do.

"Our goal is to develop local governments' cloud conversion and cloud business plans that we are pushing ahead with South Jeolla Province without a hitch. To that end, we are further reviewing the site by expanding the site to other candidate areas in South Jeolla Province where construction can begin by the end of this year," NHN Cloud said.

NHN Cloud has been promoting the establishment of data centers for many years, starting with three locations in Gwangju (AI Center), Suncheon (Jeollanam-do), and Gimhae (Gyeongsangnam-do) in accordance with the data center regional hub strategy. Gwangju is scheduled to open a data center next month. However, the Gimhae Data Center is at a standstill due to conflicts with the construction company HDC Hyundai Industrial Development and construction costs. Suncheon is also trying to secure a new site, making it difficult to estimate the exact timing of construction.
