[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics will work with VMware, a US cloud software (SW) company, to optimize virtualization systems. It is said that it will use high-performance solid state drives (SSD) to improve system performance.
Virtualization refers to a technology that allows hardware such as central processing units (CPUs) and memory to be integrated or shared. One computer can be used as multiple servers. It is also possible to recognize multiple computers as a single server. Analysts say that Samsung Electronics is expanding its territory beyond chip manufacturing to semiconductor system solutions.
Samsung Electronics introduced SSD 'PM 1743', which received 'All Flash Certification' from VMware at VMware's annual conference 'VMware Explosion 2023' held in Las Vegas on the 22nd (local time). VMware is a product that can be linked to vSAN, a software deep storage (SDS) solution released on the same day. vSAN is a virtualization SW pushed by VMware.
This year's acquisition of flash certification means that the best performance can be expected when VMware's solution vSAN and Samsung Electronics' PM1743 are applied to the storage system together. Samsung Electronics plans to provide high-performance and high-capacity storage by optimizing SSD products to meet the design standards of vSAN solutions.
