[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Following Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Sang-hee, who was accused of receiving preferential redemption just before the suspension of redemption of Lime Asset Management, Mirae Asset Securities, which sold the fund to Kim, also refuted the Financial Supervisory Service's claim, saying, "There was no preferential redemption."

Mirae Asset Securities Co. explained that the fund's value was expected to fall at the time, so it recommended the redemption to all beneficiaries of the fund that lawmaker Kim joined, and the redemption was made accordingly.

In addition, all the beneficiaries of the fund suffered losses at the time, just like Rep. Kim, the company explained. At that time, the number of fund subscribers was known to be 16.

Earlier in the day, the Financial Supervisory Service announced that Lime Asset Management repurchased 200 million won to a person who was a multiple-term lawmaker at the time as a result of the "task force (TF) inspection of major investor damage managers." The lawmaker pointed out by the Financial Supervisory Service is currently known as fourth-term lawmaker Kim Sang-hee.

"It can be seen as a 'preferential treatment' to make redemption to some influential figures at a time when executives and employees are aware that redemption will be difficult depending on the company's internal situation," said Ham Yong-il, vice president of the Financial Supervisory Service. "The losses they avoided were passed on to other investors who were suspended from redemption."

Rep. Kim countered, "We have only left our assets to Mirae Asset Securities, a trading securities firm, and lost tens of millions of won, but have not given preferential treatment. Mirae Asset Securities recommended all customers who invested in Lime Martini 4 to repurchase depending on the market situation, and I understand that all customers, including myself, proceeded with the redemption."
