[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Police have launched a forced investigation into Suseo High Speed Railway (SRT) operator SR and railway vehicle manufacturer Hyundai Rotem, which are suspected of corruption in the third-generation high-speed railway business process.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 29th that it raided SR headquarters in Suseo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and Hyundai Rotem's office in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
As a result of the seizure search, the police secured records related to the order and bidding of third-generation high-speed railway vehicles. The police plan to look into whether there were any violations in the process of SR ordering 112 new high-speed trains (power division high-speed trains) earlier this year and selecting the winning bidder.
In April, SR selected Hyundai Rotem as a successful bidder for the third-generation high-speed train introduction and maintenance project worth 1 trillion won. At that time, it was said in the railway industry that it was unclear how Woojin Industrial Co., Ltd., a partner of Hyundai Rotem, was eliminated. At the same time, Hyundai Rotem also won the EMU-320 136 project ordered by KORAIL, beating Woojin Industrial.
