[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] An arrest warrant has been sought for the head of Winia Electronics, a producer of home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, on charges of unpaid wages to employees.
The Criminal Affairs Department 1 (Senior Prosecutor Kim Young-oh) at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office said on the 19th that it has requested an arrest warrant for Park Hyun-chul, CEO of Winia Electronics, on charges of overdue wages and severance pay worth tens of billions of won (violation of the Labor Standards Act).
Park is suspected of overdue wages and severance pay of about 30.2 billion won for 412 workers for months since July last year. The prosecution found that Park failed to keep his promise of repayment several times and that the workers were pleading for severe punishment against Park.
Meanwhile, the questioning of the suspect before his arrest will be held at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court at 11 a.m. on the 20th.
