[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Fair Trade Commission said on the 21st that it will impose a correction order and a fine of 19.1 billion won on Broadcom, a U.S. semiconductor company that forced Samsung Electronics to sign a long-term contract.
Broadcom has been investigated by the FTC for years on charges of forcing Samsung Electronics to make long-term contracts (a total of three years) by abusing its superior trading status while selling key smartphone parts.
The contract said, "We purchase more than $ 760 million of Broadcom parts every year and compensate for the difference if it falls short."
The FTC judged that Broadcom unilaterally forced Samsung to sign a contract that was disadvantageous by using unfair means.
Meanwhile, Broadcom is expected to file an administrative lawsuit to cancel the sanctions.
