[Alpha Biz=Reporter Kim Jong Hyo] Shinsegae Group's early regular appointment was ultimately a key topic of conversation for the reappointment and dismissal of Kang Hee-seok, CEO of E-Mart and SG.
According to Alpha Biz coverage on the 21st, Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin reportedly stuck to the second term of E-Mart and SSG CEO Kang Hee-seok until just before the announcement of regular appointments.
An official familiar with the internal situation at Shinsegae E-Mart said, "I understand that just before the personnel reshuffle, CEO Kang Hee-seok was likely to guarantee his term at least until he is listed on SSG," adding, "Chairman Lee Myung-hee is the only one who can reverse Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin's strong confidence in CEO Kang."
Kang Hee-seok, who led E-Mart and online channel SSG.com until just before the replacement, had about two and a half years left in his term.
In other words, it is read that there was a conflict between Chairman Lee Myung-hee and Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin over the dismissal of CEO Kang Hee-seok.
According to Shinsegae Group, Chosun Hotel & Resort CEO Han Chae-yang, who will be appointed as the new head of E-Mart, is reportedly from the so-called "group planning office," a link between Chairman Lee Myung-hee, Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin and Shinsegae President Chung Yoo-kyung.
Han Chi-ho, a senior correspondent of MBN TV (Doctor of Public Administration) said, "Appointment of Han Chae-yang as a new CEO foreshadows that Chairman Lee Myung's return to leadership is inevitable." He analyzed, "The recent changes in leadership will reduce Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin's authority within the group."
