[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Iran's Mellat Bank's Seoul branch has filed a lawsuit with Woori Bank to return and pay interest on 20.2 billion won in funds frozen by U.S. sanctions against Iran. Mellat Bank is asking for an annual interest of 6%.
According to the financial sector on the 26th, Mellat Bank filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court on the 22nd to return deposits and compensate for damages.
The plan is to return 2,028,733,719 won in deposits deposited at Woori Bank, and to pay interest of 6% per year until the date of delivery of the collection for five years and 11 months after November 2018, and 12% per year until the date of return of the money.
According to this, Woori Bank has to pay about 6 billion won in interest to Mellat Bank so far.
Woori Bank plans to establish a policy to respond to the lawsuit soon.
