[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] It has been a year since KG Mobility (formerly Ssangyong Motor) was acquired by KG Group and started anew, but it is still suffering from serious sluggish vehicle sales.
According to industry sources on the 4th, KG Mobility recently lowered its production target for this year by nearly 12% from 144,000 units to 127,166 units. The drop in sales of major models such as Torres and Rexton Sports has reduced production.
In fact, the number of KG Mobility sales decreased from 4,043 units in July to 3,903 units in August. It is the first time in about 22 months that the number of monthly sales has fallen below 4,000 units since October 2021. This is a report card that was worse than when Ssangyong was under court receivership before it was acquired by KG Group. KG Mobility sold more than 5,700 units per month on average last year during its legal management period.
KG Mobility succeeded in turning into a surplus in the first quarter of this year for the first time in about seven years since the fourth quarter of 2016, but it is feared that its performance will deteriorate in the second half of this year due to a drop in sales.
