[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Amid persistent problems with fake sales and false reviews in Naver's open market "Smart Store," the National Assembly also criticized Naver for its negligence in management. Naver said it will strengthen its product management and supervision work to protect consumers.

Kim Ju-gwan, CEO of Naver Business In-house Independent Company (CIC), attended as a witness to the parliamentary audit of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korean Intellectual Property Office on the 12th and said, "We are taking measures to suspend sales by using various technologies to prevent fake products before they are distributed," adding, "We will announce measures related to consumer protection (in the near future)."

On the same day, Rep. Chung Il-young of the Democratic Party of Korea pointed out that after analyzing various luxury perfume and cosmetics products on Naver's open market, there were fake products containing methanol ingredients that are harmful to the human body. "Naver is a leading platform that sells more than 30 percent of its products sold on all online platforms, and the profit sold on the platform is 1.8 trillion won a year," Rep. Chung said. "Consumers trust Naver and buy products. Shouldn't we prevent it if fake goods are distributed?"

"For various product groups, we are preventing fake products in advance, but there are difficult aspects due to Naver's own efforts," CEO Kim said. "We are looking at the issue seriously."

Rep. Kim Yong-min of the Democratic Party of Korea criticized false reviews in the open market. "We are internally aware of false reviews," CEO Kim said. "We are taking action on cases of reports, and we have to leave reviews on actual purchases to encourage genuine reviews."

Naver also pointed out the smart store during a parliamentary audit of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communication by the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Broadcasting and Communications Committee the previous day.
