[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 26th that it recorded sales of 2.36 trillion won and operating profit of 184 billion won on a consolidated basis in the third quarter of this year. Sales decreased by 22.8 billion won (1%) and operating profit by 127 billion won (41%) compared to the same period last year. The operating profit ratio was 7.8%, lower than 13.0% in the third quarter of last year. Overall demand for IT devices continues to weaken, and profitability has been lowered due to the weak yen and intensifying competition among suppliers.

In terms of performance by sector, sales in the component sector, which accounts for the largest portion of sales, rose 18 percent on-year to 1.959 trillion won in the third quarter. This is due to the increase in MLCC supply in all applications such as the IT· industry and the battlefield due to strong demand from markets such as new global smartphone products and electronic devices and servers. However, it is predicted that demand for MLCC will slow down in the fourth quarter due to seasonal season at the end of the year. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is planning to expand its sales to high value-added products such as small and high capacity for IT and increase the supply of MLCCs for high-reliability battlefields.

Sales in the third quarter of the package solution sector, which includes optical communication solutions and substrates that include camera module products, fell 8% and 20% on-year to KRW 825.4 billion and KRW 439.6 billion, respectively.
