[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] As Asiana Airlines approved the sale of its cargo business after labor pains, the merger with Korean Air will continue.

Asiana Airlines said on the 2nd, "As a result of the board meeting on the 30th of last month and today, Korean Air has agreed to take corrective action against the European Union." In other words, I agree to sell the freight business division. The EU called for the elimination of the monopoly of the cargo business between Incheon and Europe as one of the requirements for the merger of the two companies.

In response, Korean Air will immediately sell its Asiana cargo business to EU competitors and submit corrective measures to hand over some routes to low-cost carriers (LCCs) in Korea. The EU had requested the submission of documents by the end of last month.

Initially, the aviation industry was in the mood that the board of directors would agree to the sale of Asiana's cargo division without much difficulty. However, the steps were twisted as some expressed opposition to the sale ahead of the board meeting. Former Asiana presidents and others have also issued statements opposing the sale of the cargo business.
