[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics is reportedly planning to withdraw from its consumer electronics and TV sales business in China within the year, according to Japan’s Nikkei on April 27.
The report said Samsung is expected to finalize its decision as early as this month, after which it will notify business partners and local employees, gradually liquidate inventory, and completely cease sales operations by the end of the year.
However, the company is expected to maintain its local manufacturing operations for appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners, using China as a production base to supply nearby markets.
Samsung has denied that any decision has been finalized.
Earlier, Yong Seok-woo, head of Samsung’s Visual Display business, acknowledged challenges in the Chinese market, stating that the company is reviewing various strategic options and that discussions are ongoing.
