[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Nexilis will implement a voluntary retirement program for employees with over five years of service starting this month. This marks the first manpower reduction since its acquisition by the SK Group in 2020.

Regarding the voluntary retirement program, SK Nexilis explained it as a "proactive measure to establish a long-term global production system rather than short-term profitability."

In the long term, SK Nexilis plans to operate its domestic Jeongeup factory as a 'Mother Line,' responsible for research and development (R&D) and production of next-generation premium products, while setting up market-specific production lines in Malaysia and Poland. SK Nexilis stated that this involves "domestic fixed cost reduction measures to prepare for this transition," emphasizing that they will naturally prevent leakage of technology and core production personnel.

During the first quarter earnings conference call on the 3rd, SKC mentioned that "the most significant challenge at the moment is swiftly transferring production volumes from the Jeongeup factory, where relative cost competitiveness is low, to Malaysia to improve profitability," and added, "by the fourth quarter, it is expected that Malaysia Plant 1 will operate at full capacity."

In the first quarter of this year, SK Nexilis recorded sales of 91.6 billion won and an operating loss of 39.9 billion won, with a slight increase in operating loss compared to the previous quarter due to increased fixed costs of the new Malaysian factory, among other factors.
