[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] It has been confirmed that the Financial Supervisory Service is seeking to establish an organization dedicated to supervising, inspecting and investigating virtual assets.
According to the E-Daily on the 16th, the Financial Supervisory Service is discussing with the Financial Services Commission what is needed to establish a digital property office (tentative name and virtual property office). The Financial Supervisory Service called on the Financial Services Commission to establish an organization that will increase manpower and organization and expand the budget, not reorganize it through the consolidation of existing departments. The reorganization following the merger is a matter of the FSS chief's decision, but the increase in manpower and organization must be approved by the Financial Services Commission.
The size of the new department is expected to be set next month after the government's budget management guidelines for state-run and quasi-government agencies are finalized. It is expected to be decided at the last regular meeting of the Financial Services Commission at the end of next month. The Financial Supervisory Service believes at least four teams, including a general team, a planning team, an inspection team and an investigation team, are needed under the maritime authorities. If there is room, the inspection team and the investigation team can be divided into one and two teams, respectively.
The Virtual Assets Bureau is expected to support the Financial Services Commission's work to enact a subordinate statute of the "Virtual Asset User Protection Act" in the first half of next year and check preparations for virtual asset operators to implement the law. The law enacted in July will take effect on July 19 next year, but no subordinate laws such as enforcement ordinances, supervisory regulations and enforcement rules have been created yet.
