[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Kwon Young-soo, vice chairman of LG Energy Solutions (photo), who is called the second-in-command of LG Group, is known to be retiring from the year-end personnel reshuffle. President Kim Dong-myung, who heads the automotive battery business division, is mentioned as a successor.
According to the industry on the 22nd, LG Energy Solution plans to hold a board meeting on the 22nd and conduct regular personnel appointments. Some say that Vice Chairman Kwon has already offered to resign last week.
At one time, there were rumors in and outside the business community that Vice Chairman Kwon would be appointed as the next chairman of POSCO, but he himself drew a line earlier this month, saying, "That's nonsense."
Kwon joined LG Electronics in 1979 and has served in key posts. Since the inauguration of Chairman Koo Kwang-mo in 2018, he has served as chief operating officer (COO) of LG Corp., the holding company of LG Group, contributing to stabilizing the "Gugwangmo." In 2021, he moved to LG Energy Solutions and successfully settled the battery business by leading the Initial Public Offering (IPO). Kwon's official term is until March next year.
Kim Dong-myung, head of the auto battery business division, who was promoted from personnel management to president at the end of last year, is mentioned as Kwon's successor. An official of LG Energy Solutions said, "The final personnel appointment will be confirmed after the board meeting."
