[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The "Naver User Protection and Self-regulatory Committee (Naver Self-regulatory Committee)" has proposed an inspection of Naver's new launch services through the "Dark Pattern checklist" as part of the creation of a healthy platform ecosystem.
The dark pattern checklist is a guideline for the service planning and development manager to check the service in advance to increase user satisfaction when launching a new service. The results of the dark pattern checklist analysis will be included in Naver's self-regulatory committee report to be released in the first half of next year.
Naver's self-regulatory committee held its second regular meeting on the 28th to discuss measures to prevent dark patterns. Dark pattern refers to an online screen layout designed to induce users' unreasonable spending and illusions. The meeting was attended by all professors and members of Korea University's Graduate School of Information Security, chairman of Naver's self-regulatory committee, and Park Woo-sung, senior leader of Naver's Forward Lab, Kim Sung-kyu, leader of the commerce partnership and operation team, and Sohn Ji-yoon, general manager of policy strategy.
Naver Forward Lab is a research organization that considers the direction of operation to improve the user service experience. Woosung Park, Senior Leader of Forward Lab, introduced Naver 'Enterprise Education to Prevent Dark Patterns' to the committee.
Kim Sung-kyu, leader of the commerce partnership and operation team, introduced Naver's efforts to respond to false reviews. He explained efforts to cope with advanced abusing (manipulation of views) and plans to establish a review agency platform monitoring system.
