[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LS Group announced on the 28th that it will invest more than 2 trillion won to enter the secondary battery material field.
The move came after Chairman Koo Ja-eun announced her plan to boldly jump into industries related to bae·jeon·ban (battery · electric vehicles · semiconductors), citing it as a key partner in CFE (carbon-free power) and future industries as "Vision 2030" for the group's growth earlier this year. The goal is to grow more than twice by 2030 through CFE.

LS Materials (417200), a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, is a company that leads the ultra capacitor (UC) market called 'next-generation secondary battery'. LS Materials has been successful since its first day on the KOSDAQ (12th), recording 'Tatable' (four times higher than the initial public offering price).
LS Mobility Solution, an electric vehicle component subsidiary of LS Electric (010120), has established its second production base in Mexico after China and is in full swing in the North American electric vehicle market. LS E Mobility Solution plans to build a 35,000-square-meter production plant in Durant by this year, and to mass-produce key parts for electric vehicles such as EV Relay and BDU (Battery Disconnect Unit) from next year.
Nonferrous metal material company LS MnM started EV battery material business in March by completing sulfuric acid nickel plant in Toricom, a subsidiary. Nickel sulfate is a key material for next-generation electric vehicle batteries.
In October, the company announced plans to invest 670 billion won in "EVBM Onsan," a project that produces secondary battery materials using a 95,000-square-meter site adjacent to the Onsan refinery in Ulsan, and 1.16 trillion won to build a 40,000-ton nickel sulfate complex plant at the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex. Through the second stage investment, LS MnM will produce 62,000 tons of nickel sulfate (based on nickel metal), which is equivalent to about 1.25 million electric vehicles, by 2029.
In addition, LS Mtron recently introduced Korea's first commercialized autonomous tractor at the 2023 International Agricultural Fair.
Eco-friendly energy company E1 is actively expanding new businesses such as hydrogen, renewable energy and electric vehicle charging in line with changes in the energy market. Since last year, E1 has built and operated hydrogen charging stations at three LPG charging stations in Gwacheon, Goyang and Gangseo, Seoul. The Gwacheon complex charging station also has an electric vehicle charging facility that can charge LPG, hydrogen, and electric vehicles.
