[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Heavy Industries made an announcement on the 2nd that it has won an order for one floating liquefied natural gas production, storage and unloading facility (FLNG) from an ordering company in North America. The order amount is 2.1 trillion won (about 1.5 billion dollars), which is a conditional contract for the final investment decision of the ordering company.
Samsung Heavy Industries formed a consortium with US engineering firm Black & Beach to sign a design, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the FLNG. Samsung Heavy Industries will carry out the FLNG hull and upper plant (Topside) EPC process.
With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries will secure stable marine work by increasing the backlog of large FLNG orders to two. It has also proved once again its unrivaled competitiveness in the field of FLNG.
On the other hand, the FLNG won the contract on December 29, 2023, and was included in last year's order. As a result, Samsung Heavy Industries recorded a cumulative order amount of $ 8.3 billion last year, achieving 87% of its annual order target of $ 90.5 billion.
