[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Korean Air and Asiana Airlines passenger flights to and from the airport were also delayed or canceled due to a fire on a Japan Airlines (JAL) passenger plane landing on Japan's Haneda Airport runway on the afternoon of the 2nd.

According to aviation authorities and the airline industry, Japan's Haneda Airport closed all runways from 5:56 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. due to a fire that broke out later in the day. Haneda Airport initially said it would temporarily close the airport until 9 p.m., but the shutdown was extended by 30 minutes before being lifted.

As a result, Korean Air canceled a total of five flights, including KE2104, which departed from Haneda Airport at 7:50 p.m. to Gimpo Airport. Earlier, Korean Air Flight KE2103, which departed from Gimpo Airport at 4:16 p.m. and was about to land at Haneda Airport, returned to Nagoya Airport and landed at 7:10 p.m.

Asiana Airlines also canceled a total of four flights, including OZ1065 and OZ178 (bound for Haneda Air from Incheon at 9:20 p.m.), which were scheduled to depart from Gimpo Airport at 7:35 p.m. and head for Haneda Airport. Flight OZ1035, which was scheduled to depart from Haneda Airport to Incheon International Airport at 8:05 p.m., was delayed at 11 p.m., and a series of flights to and from both sides were canceled or delayed, confusing passengers until late at night.

A Korean Air official said, "We will decide how to respond in the morning of the 3rd, including the deployment of additional flights, for passengers who have been inconvenienced by the cancellation."
