[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The design drawings of Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) submarines were leaked to Taiwan and the police are investigating.
The submarine design drawings leaked to Taiwan are DSME1400 models that won three orders for $1.1 billion (about 1.43 trillion won) from Indonesia in 2011 when Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering was in office. The DSME1400 is a derivative of the 209-class Jangbogo-1 submarine.
According to the police on the 5th, the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency has booked two people, including a former Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering employee, without physical detention on charges of leaking the technology. A and others took out the submarine design drawings while working at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and later moved to B, a submarine development consulting firm.
The police believe that the drawings were leaked while B company, which they belong to, was building Taiwan's own submarine "Hai Kun" with Taiwan International Shipbuilding Corporation (CSBC).
