[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SK ON has decided to speed up the development of all-solid batteries, called 'dream batteries', by strengthening cooperation with solid power, a US battery company.
On the 18th, SK ON announced that it has signed a technology transfer agreement with Solid Power at 'CES 2024', the world's largest consumer electronics and information technology (IT) exhibition that ended in Las Vegas last week. SK ON Chief Business Officer (CCO) Sung Min-seok and Solid Power CEO John Van Scotter attended the signing ceremony held at the Las Vegas Convention Center on the 10th (local time).
Under the agreement, SK On will be able to utilize all technologies related to Solid Power's all-solid battery cell design and pilot line process for research and development. Solid Power supplies sulphide-based solid electrolytes to SK On and helps develop all-solid batteries with excellent stability and performance.
SK ON plans to build a full-solid battery pilot line at the Daejeon Battery Research Institute by 2025. The pilot line is a test production facility ahead of full-scale mass production.
SK On plans to develop an all-solid battery that greatly enhances performance such as life and energy density by combining solid power's high sulfuric acid and cell technology with its technology and know-how. The two companies will continue to cooperate for the commercialization of all-solid batteries after development.
