[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics has decided to freeze this year's salary for executives of device solutions (DS) in its semiconductor business.

In the wake of the global economic downturn, the DS sector posted a deficit for the fourth consecutive quarter of last year and recorded the biggest deficit since its founding, raising the sense of crisis and took special measures.

Samsung Electronics' DS division held an emergency executive meeting presided over by the head of DS division (president) on the afternoon of the 17th and decided on the matter.

Rather than blaming the industry for the lack of demand for semiconductors, Samsung Electronics explained that it is an expression of executives' determination to overcome the crisis this year by rearming their minds with extraordinary determination.

The executives resolved to secure competitiveness and normalize management at the meeting.
