[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Lotte and Silla will compete for the right to operate duty-free shops at Gimpo Airport.

The Korea Airports Corp. selected two candidates for the patent project as Lotte Duty Free and Shilla Duty Free on the 23rd in the bidding for the DF2 zone of the duty-free shop at Gimpo Airport, where the Big Four -- Lotte, Shilla, Shinsegae and Hyundai Department Store Duty Free -- all threw their hat into the ring.

The four companies held a competitive presentation (PT) at the Seoul Regional Headquarters of the Korea Airports Corporation in Gangseo-gu, Seoul this afternoon. Lotte Duty Free CEO Kim Joo-nam, Hotel Shilla TR head Kim Tae-ho, Shinsegae Duty Free CEO Yoo Shin-yeol and Hyundai Department Store Duty Free CEO Lee Jae-sil made their own presentations.

The seven-year operating right has been at stake since the end of April, when the lease period of the existing operator, Shilla Duty Free, ends. In particular, the bid is the last chance for large companies to open new stores at local airports by 2030. The area handles alcoholic beverages and cigarettes with relatively high margins.

The Korea Airports Corporation selected two patent business candidates and notified the Korea Customs Service in the order of a comprehensive rating of high scores, which combines the evaluation scores of proposals submitted by each company, the bidding scores for operating rates and PT evaluations.

The Korea Customs Service will receive patent applications by February 16 and conduct a review of two companies. One company selected after a patent review by the Korea Customs Service will be the final bidder.
