Samsung Electronics' bonus payment rate is '0 won' for semiconductors vs. mobile '50% annual salary'

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] There were mixed feelings of performance-based bonuses within Samsung Electronics, which suffered from poor performance due to worsening semiconductor industries.

According to the industry on the 30th, Samsung Electronics confirmed and announced the payment rate of excess profit performance (OPI) by business unit within the company.

The OPI payment rate of the Mobile Experience (MX) division in charge of the smartphone business is the highest at 50% of the annual salary. It seems to have played a major role in supporting the company's earnings last year due to strong flagship smartphone sales.

OPI pays up to 50% of an individual's annual salary within 20% of excess profits when its business unit's performance exceeds the target set at the beginning of the year, and is Samsung Electronics' representative bonus system along with the target achievement incentive (TAI).

The video display (VD) division in charge of the TV business receives 43% of its annual salary.

The OPI payment rate of the home appliance division and the medical device division, which received 7% last year, was set at 12% this year.

On the other hand, the device solution (DS) division, which has received 50% of the annual salary almost every year, such as receiving 50% of the annual salary through OPI early last year, will receive an empty envelope due to poor performance.

This is because the semiconductor industry suffered a cold spell in the wake of the economic downturn, and the cumulative deficit in the DS sector alone exceeded 12 trillion won in the first to third quarters of last year.

In the DS sector, the TAI payment rate in the second half of last year averaged 12.5%, which is half of the first half of last year (25%).

Based on its performance once a year in the first and second half of the year, TAI will pay up to 100% of the maximum monthly basic salary by combining its business division and business division evaluation.

By division, TAI payment rate of foundry and system LSI division was set at 0%, memory division 12.5%, semiconductor research institute 25%, and SAIT (formerly Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) 25%.
