[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] An integrated labor union of Samsung's four affiliates will be created. The number of union members is about 13,000.
According to the industry, the "Samsung Enterprise Super Enterprise Labor Union" held its first general meeting of its members on the 31st and began the process for its official launch. The union is scheduled to officially launch next month and begin full-fledged activities.
Currently, there are four unions known to participate in the labor union of super companies: Samsung Electronics' DX (device experience) union, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance's ribbon union, Samsung Display's open labor union and Samsung BioLogics' win-win labor union.
Since late last year, the labor union of each affiliate has collected internal opinions from its members by voting on the establishment of an integrated union, and most of them received more than 80% of the votes. The approval rate was 99.5% for Samsung BioLogics, 96.12% for Samsung Display, 90% for Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance's ribbon union, and 86% for Samsung Electronics' DX union.
The number of members of each union is about 6,000 Samsung Electronics' DX union, 3,000 Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance's ribbon union, 3,000 Samsung Display's open union and 1,600 Samsung BioLogics' win-win union. The total number of members of the four unions is 13,000, which is higher than the National Samsung Electronics Union (10,000), which is the largest among Samsung's affiliated unions.
In 2022, the Samsung Group Labor Union, which consists of unions of 12 affiliates, called on the management to raise wages and extend the retirement age. On the other hand, this is the first time to establish an integrated union.
