[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 6th that it has signed a contract to build 15 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers of 174,000 cubic meters with owners in the Middle East.
The total contract amount is 4.5716 trillion won, which is the largest single order of Samsung Heavy Industries. In July last year, the amount of contracts to build 16 methanol-powered container ships exceeded 3.9593 trillion won.
The vessels ordered this time will be delivered sequentially to the shipowners by October 2028.
With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders for this year totaled 17 ships (14 LNG carriers and two super-sized ammonia carriers) and $3.7 billion. It is off to a good start, achieving nearly half of last year's total order performance ($ 8.3 billion).
