[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] It has been reported that the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) is currently investigating Kakao amid suspicions that it has imposed unfair fees on delivery charges for its partner merchants.
According to industry sources on the 9th, the FTC is probing allegations that Kakao has been charging fees not only for its services but also for delivery charges from the merchants participating in its KakaoTalk "Gift" service.
Most of the merchants enlisted in KakaoTalk Gift benefit from Kakao's free shipping policy, except for certain regions.
Allegations suggest that Kakao may have been charging fees for delivery charges in addition to the commission fees it receives from partner merchants during transactions.
The Large Retail Business Act prohibits large-scale distributors from providing economic benefits to suppliers or third parties.
