[Alpha Biz= Kim Sang Jin] South Korean President Lee Jae-myung congratulated the animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters after it won two awards at the Academy Awards, praising the achievement as a proud moment for the nation.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on March 16, Lee said, “I send a strong round of applause together with the people of Korea for this meaningful achievement on one of the world’s most prestigious stages in cinema.”
Lee said he was pleased to hear that K-Pop Demon Hunters won both the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song awards.
“The film shows how culture can transcend borders and languages to connect the hearts of people around the world,” he said.
The president added that the movie combined the dynamic energy of K-pop, Korean sensibilities and creative imagination to deliver new enjoyment while expanding the horizons of Korean culture.
“It has given immense pride to Koreans in Korea and around the world,” Lee said. “As the director mentioned in the acceptance speech, it has taken a long time for stories in which we are the protagonists to shine at the center of the global stage.”
Lee said the achievement would open new opportunities for future generations of creators.
“Building on today’s success, the next generation of creators will be able to pursue bigger dreams on broader stages and at a faster pace,” he said. “I will continue to watch and support the creative journeys that lie ahead for all of you.”
He also emphasized that the vision of independence activist Kim Gu—who dreamed of a nation that would become “a source, goal and model of a high and new culture”—is gradually becoming reality.
