[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Hanwha System announced on the 29th that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Jeju Hanwha Space Center' at the site of the former Tamna University in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The Jeju Hanwha Space Center has a floor area of about 11,443 square meters (about 3,462 pyeong) with one basement floor and two stories above the ground. It aims to be completed by the end of 2025 as a satellite development and manufacturing facility.
A facility will be built on the first floor of the Jeju Hanwha Space Center to test satellite development, assembly, functions and performance, while a space center control room and office space will be built on the second floor. An official of Hanwha System explained, "Jeju Hanwha Space Center can produce from 4 to 8 satellites per month by optimizing the production process."
The Jeju Hanwha Space Center will be double equipped with a "Thermal Vaccum test" that verifies satellite operations in the space environment and "Near-Field Range test" equipment that tests the performance of satellite antennas at close range. It plans to build additional automated manufacturing and assembly facilities in the future.
