[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, South Korea – April 23, 2025 — In response to the recent USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) data breach reported by SK Telecom, South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has issued a security advisory and outlined steps for customers to restore account access if mistakenly locked.
On April 22, Bithumb initially alerted users of the potential risk posed by the SK Telecom incident, recommending voluntary account locking as a preventive measure. However, in a follow-up notification sent via mobile on April 23, Bithumb clarified that the prior alert was precautionary only, and not indicative of any confirmed account breaches.
Customers who have unintentionally locked their accounts can now request reinstatement by submitting identification through the following channels:
Mobile App: Navigate to More > Customer Center > Certification Center > Other Certificates and submit the required information and a copy of a valid ID.
Website (PC): Go to Customer Support > Certification Center > Other Certificates, then complete the necessary fields and upload supporting documentation.
Bithumb emphasized its commitment to customer security in a public statement:
“This alert was issued solely as a precaution to safeguard customer assets. Account locking is an optional security measure, and any submitted information will be carefully reviewed to ensure secure account reinstatement.”
The action follows SK Telecom’s disclosure of a system breach on April 19, which may have involved USIM-related data. Although no confirmed misuse has been reported to date, Bithumb and other platforms are taking proactive steps to protect users from potential fraud.
