[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] The Fair Trade Commission will decide whether to impose sanctions as early as next month for the act of online shopping mall Coupang mobilizing its executives and employees to write purchase reviews of its own brand (PB) products.

Earlier, civil society organizations reported to the Fair Trade Commission in March 2022, saying it was revealed that Coupang had been forced to write false reviews.

According to Fair Trade Commission Chairman Han Ki-jung, the FTC will hold a plenary session in the middle of next month to deliberate on the status and level of sanctions related to Coupang's preferential practices.

Regarding consumer damage on Chinese platforms such as Ali and Temu, Chairman Han said, "Foreign companies have been enforcing the law in accordance with laws and principles like domestic companies," and stressed, "There was no difficulty in enforcing the law to foreign companies."
